Hethel Lotus Information & FAQs – Track Day Guide For Visitors

The Hethel Lotus race/test circuit is situated alongside the Lotus UK  factory, a few miles SW of Norwich & approached by a minor road off the A11.  The Lotus group was founded by Colin Chapman (OBE) who pioneered the use of struts as a rear suspension device.  Even today, struts used in the rear of a vehicle are still known as Chapman struts.

Once a working airfield servicing bomber squadrons of the U.S. 8th Air Force during World War 2.  The Lotus Group moved its headquarters to Hethel in 1966, where it still remains in residence whilst running the Hethel Lotus test track.

While no race championships are held at the Hethel Lotus motor circuit,  it is worth stating that the Lotus factory offers morning and afternoon tours Monday to Thursday.

On Tuesdays and Wednesdays, the heritage tour is available for ‘Classic Lotus’, dedicated towards Lotus racing legacy and a good opportunity to see their collection of historic and significant race cars found in Formula 1.

Getting to Hethel Lotus Circuit By Car

The circuit is situated close to Norwich and can be located by the A11 or A140

Getting to Hethel Lotus Circuit By Rail

Exit at Norwich train station,  and then a 25 minute taxi journey.

On the A11 both North and South bound – both petrol stations sell Super Plus fuel – The Northbound fuel station also has a Waitrose store for food and drinks.

Yes, we run driver tuition at Hethel Lotus Motor-racing circuit on Goldtrack track days!  No track driver ever stops learning and we take tuition very seriously.

Tuition on a Gold Track day at Hethel Lotus provides familiarisation and basic tuition right through to in-depth coaching for racers. We chose our ARDS instructors for their experience, communication skills and ability to gauge their input to your current level of experience.

Free Initial Tuition For All Novices Driving At Hethel Lotus

Our commitment to safety and high standards of track driving starts with free initial tuition for novices, whether it’s your first time ever at Hethel Lotus or just an unfamiliar circuit.

This ensures that all our customers achieve a certain minimum standard of competence before going solo on the Hethel Lotus race circuit. One of our instructors will sit with you in your car while you drive your first laps. After that, the instructors are available all day for further advice. You can book 30-minute one-to-one tuition sessions at Hethel Lotus or at all other events.

Hethel Lotus Motor Circuit operates under a strict noise management regime.

Goldtrack Track days typically run on a 106 dB noise limit on Hethel Lotus track days, but please refer to individual track day events for noise limits on the track day event booking page.

It is not confirmed at this time if there are  cash machines or ATMs available on-site at the Hethel race circuit, however, the circuit office and many of the vendors/facilities do accept card payments.

Baby changing facilities at Hethel Lotus can be located on the visitor map.

Hethel Lotus has a no smoking policy in the public or pitlane areas. Please refer to the visitors map for designated smoking locations.

You can bring food to Hethel Lotus. However, there is a strict policy banning the use of glass.

Calum Lockie is available on all Gold Track days running advanced tuition for safely improving lap speeds at the Hethel Lotus race track, on our track days you’ll always see a great variety of vehicles whilst meeting interesting people who share a similar passion for cars and driving.
