Castle Combe Information & FAQs – Track Day Guide For Visitors

The Castle Combe race circuit is based at the site of an airfield which operated as RAF Castle Combe during WW2 this airfield was used as a training ground for pilots during the war and later as a resettlement camp for Polish ex-service personnel. The site was decommissioned by the ministry of defence in 1948 and the first races were organised by the Bristol Motorcycle & Light Car Club, in July 1950.

As well as holding racing events and trackdays for both cars and motorcycles, Castle Combe Circuit holds a large number of vehicle shows.  These shows follow a general motorsport theme and exhibit stands, market stalls,  classic car displays, stunt demonstrations and the location is even used as a filming facility for TV Motoring shows ‘Top Gear’ and ‘Fifth Gear’ when testing cars and filming.

Castle Combe offers plenty of excitements with fast entry into the Esses, where trail braking pays dividends and the flat out Folly just past the Pits. A lovely flowing lap that will put a smile on your face.

Gold Track events at Castle Combe are hosted by Melindi Scott and motor racing champion Calum Lockie.  They operate premium trackdays with low numbers ensuring maximum track time.

International Events At Castle Combe

Races at Castle Combe include a home-circuit championship with classes for Saloon cars, Sports and GTs and Formula Ford. Racing clubs from across the UK use the Castle Combe track in their championship events, including the 750 Motor Club, and BRSCC (British Racing and Sports Car Club).

Once a year Castle Combe hosts motorcycle racing takes over two days during the summer. This weekend, includes a modern supersport races, a sidecar championship and an historic race.

Formula Ford At Castle Combe

Formula Ford is also known as F1600 and Formula F.  It is an entry-level class of single-seater for open-wheel formula racing. There are various championships held across the world for Formula Ford and these provide an important step for many prospective Formula One drivers.

Getting to Castle Combe Circuit By Car

The circuit is situated close to Junctions 17 & 18 of the M4 motorway and is clearly signposted using the brown tourist signs marked with a chequered flag. London is approximately 90 miles, Birmingham 80 miles and Cardiff 60 miles.

Exit at Chippenham train station,  Chippenham is on the mainline from Paddington to Bristol Temple Meads. Taxis are available from the station

Getting to Castle Combe Circuit By Helicpter Helicopter Landing
Castle Combe Circuit has a helicopter pad and is situated 45 minutes from Bristol Airport and 90 minutes from Heathrow airports.  Helicopter landing is strictly by prior permission only (PPO) and a landing fee is required. Yes, we run driver tuition at Castle Combe Motor-racing circuit on Goldtrack track days!  No track driver ever stops learning and we take tuition very seriously.

Tuition on a Gold Track day at Castle Combe provides familiarisation and basic tuition right through to in-depth coaching for racers. We chose our ARDS instructors for their experience, communication skills and ability to gauge their input to your current level of experience.

Free Initial Tuition For All Novices Driving At Castle Combe

Our commitment to safety and high standards of track driving starts with free initial tuition for novices, whether it’s your first time ever at Castle Combe or just an unfamiliar circuit.

This ensures that all our customers achieve a certain minimum standard of competence before going solo on the Castle Combe race circuit. One of our instructors will sit with you in your car while you drive your first laps. After that, the instructors are available all day for further advice. You can book 30-minute one-to-one tuition sessions at Castle Combe or at all other events.

Castle Combe Motor Circuit operates under a strict noise management regime.

Goldtrack Track days typically run on a 100 dB noise limit on Castle Combe track days, but please refer to individual track day events for noise limits on the track day event booking page.

There are no cash machines or ATMs available on-site at the castle combes race circuit, however, the circuit office and many of the vendors do accept card payments.

Baby changing facilities at Castle Combe can be located on the visitor map.

Castle Combe has a no smoking policy in the public or pitlane areas. Outside area’s, there is no set policy.

You can bring food to Silverstone. However, there is a strict policy banning the use of glass.

Clients attending the Castle Combe motor racing circuit.  Like most of our track days, they include people from all walks of life – from wealthy business people who drive exotic supercars, to young enthusiasts who take hot hatches, sports cars and even family saloons onto the circuits.

A number of competing racing drivers also regularly attend our track days at Castle Combe to refine their circuit knowledge – or just because they can’t stay away.

Calum Lockie is available on all Gold Track days running advanced tuition for safely improving lap speeds at the Castle Combe race track, and you’ll always see a great variety of vehicles whilst meeting interesting people who share a similar passion in cars and driving.
